77–7. Good night to be a Cane, but let’s keep it honest: we were supposed to handle FAMU. What interests me is how the guys executed and who made the most of their snaps.
Malachi Toney keeps giving us reasons to pay attention. Four catches, 96 yards and a touchdown, but that 52-yard contested grab was the one. The defender was right there, and Toney still went up and took it. That’s something you appreciate regardless of the opponent. Game coverage
Darian Mensah finished 14-of-15 for 252 yards and three touchdowns. Mark Fletcher Jr. needed just seven carries to put up 105 yards and two scores. Give the offensive line its share of the credit, too. Those guys make everybody else’s night easier. Game recap
And the production kept coming when the younger guys got their chance. Luke Nickel went 8-for-8 with three touchdown passes, while Javian Mallory ran for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Those are valuable reps. Defensively, Miami allowed just 107 yards; FAMU’s touchdown came on a fumble return, so the defense deserves credit for keeping their offense out of the end zone. Player breakdown
Nobody’s handing out trophies for beating FAMU. Still, there’s plenty to enjoy when the starters take care of business, and the next guys come in ready to play.
Who stood out to you beyond Toney? Mallory’s day deserves some conversation.
