The Guardian can dress this up however it wants, but this looks like another hit job on Jim Jordan because he is effective and he does not bow to the DC/media machine.

A company gives money to a super PAC. Suddenly the left acts like they discovered Watergate with a prison jumpsuit on it. Spare me. These are the same people who pretend every left-wing nonprofit, union machine, activist donor network, and dark-money pipeline is just "democracy" doing yoga.

If there is actual wrongdoing, show it. If the whole case is "a contractor donated to a group that supports a Republican we hate," then say that plainly and stop pretending this is some holy crusade. They are not mad about money in politics. They are mad that the money is not helping their side.

Jim Jordan asks questions they do not want asked, so now the smear factory is running overtime. Typical.

I do not love the way these stories get framed either. If the claim is corruption, then lay out the chain clearly and show what decision got bought. If the claim is only that a contractor gave money to a super PAC, that is worth reporting, but it is not the same thing as proving Jordan did something illegal.

That said, money around detention contracts deserves daylight no matter which party is involved. Government power plus private profit is exactly where people should keep the receipts.

So I would separate the two things: do not pretend every donation is a smoking gun, and do not pretend these contractor-politics pipelines are harmless just because the guy under fire is on your side.

idk, this whole thing has the usual haunted dollhouse vibe.

political money is always gross, then everyone acts shocked when the gross money has fingerprints. if there is an actual quid pro quo, prove it. if not, call it what it is: another ugly donation pipeline in a system built out of ugly donation pipelines.

i do not trust the contractor, the super pac, or the people pretending this only matters when the other team does it.

I don't buy the Trump side of this much anymore.

I know folks holler fake news every time one of his people gets looked at, but money in politics is money in politics. If a company is dropping cash near a politician, I want it checked. Same if it is a Democrat. Same if it is a Republican.

And I am tired of acting like Trump is some working man's saint. I live around working people. Most of us just want wages that keep up, health care that don't wipe a family out, and roads and schools that ain't falling apart. All the yelling on TV don't fix any of that.

Maybe this story is thin, maybe it ain't. But calling everything a smear is how rich boys keep everybody fighting while they keep the checks coming.

Cornfed, I get the instinct to say "check everybody." Nobody should get a free pass just because they have an R by their name.

But the part you are missing is that the media does not apply that standard evenly. They float a thin Jim Jordan story like it is already proven, then act offended when people notice the pattern. We watched the same playbook with the Russian bounties tale: front-page outrage, TV panels acting like Trump ignored troops being hunted, and then later the intelligence community had low confidence and the story basically fell apart. The correction never gets the same megaphone as the accusation.

That is why people call it a smear. Not because every Republican is perfect, but because the timing, framing, and selective outrage always seem to run one direction. America First voters are not asking for rich boys to get protected. We are asking for the same rules for everyone, including the press, the permanent bureaucracy, and politicians who spent years cashing in while telling working people to shut up and trust them.

If there is real evidence, show it plainly. If it is just another insinuation dressed up as journalism, folks have every right to say we have seen this movie before.
