CHARTER: rb.comp.programs.announce rb.comp.programs.announce is a moderated group for announcements of computer programs, applications, utilities, tools, software releases, updates, ports, patches, documentation, and related software resources. Appropriate announcements include, but are not limited to: New software releases Version updates Security or maintenance updates New utilities or tools Open source project announcements Commercial software announcements Library or framework releases Documentation releases Major feature updates Portability announcements End-of-life notices Calls for testers of software projects Announcements should include enough information for readers to understand what the program is, what system or platform it runs on, where it may be obtained, and what has changed if the post concerns an update. Posts should normally include a clear subject line containing the program name and, when appropriate, the version number. Discussion, reviews, troubleshooting, general recommendations, arguments, and followups about announced software should be directed to rb.comp.programs or another appropriate discussion group. This group is intended for announcements only. It is not intended for general software discussion, programming language questions, operating system support, political discussion, personal attacks, spam, flooding, warez, license cracking, malicious software distribution, or unrelated advertising. Commercial announcements are permitted when they are directly relevant to computer programs or software tools and are not excessive, deceptive, or repeatedly posted. The purpose of rb.comp.programs.announce is to provide a low-noise place for readers to find announcements of useful, interesting, new, updated, or important software.
