Bili Morguhn was one of my favorite characters in the Horseclans books. He didn't have immortality or strange powers. He earned his reputation by being one hard son of a bitch with a huge axe.
The part that always sticks with me is when he crushed the rebellion. There wasn't any drawn-out debate or second guessing. Bili knew what had to be done and he did it. In the Horseclans world, letting a rebellion drag on just meant more people would die later.
And that axe... every time he showed up carrying it, you knew things were about to get ugly. He wasn't fancy. He wasn't trying to look like a hero. He just walked in and handled business. That's why people feared him.
His death got to me more than I expected. After all he'd survived, I figured Bili would somehow outlive everybody. Instead, he was gone, and it felt like the series lost one of its foundations. There are a lot of great characters in Horseclans, but Bili the Axe is still the first one that comes to mind for me.
