Saw the BFRO added a fresh Connecticut one, and this one is the kind that sticks with me.
Guy says he was leaving a cabin near Beach Pond in Voluntown around 1:45 in the morning, not far from the Pachaug River, and something big stepped out right in front of his car. Not a blur way back in a field. Close enough he had to hit the brakes.
The details are what get me. Eight foot or more, long arms down by the knees, greasy brown hair, broad shoulders, crossed the road in just a few steps and never even looked at him. That is not how a bear does a road crossing. Bears look clumsy when they try to stand up. This sounded like something built to walk that way.
Could he be wrong? sure. Night roads mess with your head. But I have drove enough dark woods roads to know there is a difference between "what was that" and "I almost hit something that should not be there."
