I swear, every Pearl Jam fan sings a different version of this song, and every one of us thinks we're right.
What's funny is that "Yellow Ledbetter" never even made it onto Ten. It got stuck on the B-side of "Jeremy," but somehow turned into one of the band's most beloved songs anyway. If you ask me, it should've been on the album from day one.
Mike McCready absolutely kills it on this track. You can hear the Hendrix vibe all over that guitar, and the solo at the end is just perfection.
Then there's Eddie. I don't think even Eddie knows what Eddie is singing half the time. The lyrics change live, everybody hears something different, and that's become part of the fun. I've probably "learned" the words ten different times over the years.
Some songs are great because of the lyrics.
"Yellow Ledbetter" is great because of the feeling.
Turn it up, quit trying to figure out the words, and just let it play.
