Speaking of short stories, one of my favorites is by Isaac Asimov called The Last Question. it is a pretty interesting read where mankind keeps asking the computer about the meaning of life, etc and the computer always replies back with "There is as yet, insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
Then, as eons go by and Mankind destroys itself the only thing left is the computer who finally gets enough data for an answer, but then says "Let There Be Light"
