One of the ideas that keeps coming back to me is whether we're getting closer to
Hari Seldon's psychohistory.
Today's AI can already analyze enormous amounts of data, identify patterns, and
even make predictions about everything from the stock market to disease
outbreaks. It's nowhere near predicting the future of an entire civilization,
but it does make you wonder.
If AI had access to enough historical records, economic data, demographics,
social trends, and real-time information, could it eventually predict the broad
direction humanity is heading? Not individual people, but societies as a whole,
just like Seldon envisioned.
Or is psychohistory one of those ideas that only works in science fiction
because people are simply too unpredictable?
I don't think we're there yet... but I'm not as sure it's impossible as I was
twenty years ago.
