Rereading Swords of the Horseclans and Revenge of the Horseclans reminded me why I liked Milo Morai so much.
Most immortal characters in fiction eventually become detached from ordinary people, but Milo never really does. Despite centuries of experience, he still rides into danger, still fights beside his people, and still takes responsibility when things go wrong.
A lot of fantasy and science fiction heroes talk about leadership. Milo actually earns it.
It's hard to think of many characters I'd willingly follow into battle, but Milo would be near the top of the list.
