Good morning, Europe. Thursday starts with Britain’s new budget and a reminder that your local library may offer much more than books.
Reuters morning read: UK finance minister John Healey’s first budget offered cost-of-living support while accepting a smaller cushion against the government’s fiscal rules. Reuters reports that around 20 million households in lower-valued homes are due a £100 payment towards higher energy bills, fuel duty remains frozen until at least July, and fixed gas standing charges will be removed for most households. The plan raises taxes on banks, gambling companies, savers and landlords; the budget watchdog expects growth to slow to 1% in 2027.
