Good morning, Europe. Tuesday opens with new UK sanctions over alleged abuses in Sudan, plus a practical way to check whether something in your home has been recalled.
Reuters morning read: Britain has sanctioned 15 military commanders, militia leaders and security officials from both sides of Sudan’s conflict. The UK accused those listed of responsibility for sexual violence, torture and attacks on civilians linked to the fall of al-Fashir in North Darfur. London said the measures follow UK-funded research documenting systematic starvation and conflict-related sexual violence by both sides.

Useful this morning: Before using a second-hand electrical item, toy or household product, search the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards recall database by brand, model and batch number. A matching notice will explain whether to stop using the item and how to seek a repair, replacement or refund. The database covers non-food consumer products; its guidance also links to the separate food, vehicle and medical-product alert services.
