Good morning, Europe. Sunday brings an escalation in Albania’s student protests and a heads-up for this week’s Orionid meteor shower.
Reuters morning read: Police in Albania fired what appeared to be rubber bullets during Saturday’s clashes in Tirana, the fifth day of mass student demonstrations demanding Prime Minister Edi Rama resign. Reuters video showed police firing towards crowds outside the education ministry; its reporters found rubber pellets, and pellets struck two Reuters journalists and several protesters. Scores of police officers and protesters have been injured during the unrest.

Useful this morning: The Orionid meteor shower is building towards its peak on the night of 21 October, between midnight and dawn. Royal Observatory Greenwich says it should remain visible for several days either side of the maximum. No telescope is needed: find the darkest safe spot you can, give your eyes time to adjust, dress warmly and look across a wide area of sky. A waxing gibbous Moon will make fainter meteors harder to see this year.
