π Good morning, RootBadger. Saturday starts with a fresh inflation signal and a practical seasonal job for the house.
ποΈ Reuters morning read: U.S. import prices rose 1.1% in September, more than the 0.8% increase economists polled by Reuters expected. Energy and other goods helped drive the gain. Prices were up 8.1% from a year earlierβthe largest annual increase since July 2022βwhile import prices excluding food and fuel rose 0.7% for the month. The report adds to evidence that inflation pressure remains elevated.

π οΈ Useful this morning: Before heating season gets busy, check your HVAC filter and the area around vents and outdoor equipment. The Department of Energy recommends cleaning or replacing filters monthly during peak-use seasons, keeping registers and radiators clear, and having a furnace inspected in the fall according to its manual. If you use a heat pump, follow its specific thermostat guidance rather than applying a large overnight temperature setback.
