Good morning, Europe. Wednesday brings a guarded view from Britain’s largest companies and a travel check for a windy day.
Reuters morning read: Large UK companies are putting more emphasis on cutting costs as finance chiefs expect inflation and interest rates to rise. Reuters reports that 68% of CFOs in Deloitte’s latest survey called cost reduction a strong priority for the next year, up from 53% previously. Respondents forecast inflation at 3.4% and the Bank of England’s key rate at 4.0% in a year. The survey covered 66 CFOs, including executives from FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 firms.

Useful this morning: The Met Office has a yellow wind warning in force from 10:00 to 19:00 BST today, with likely delays to road, rail, air and ferry travel in affected areas. Check whether your route is inside the warning area before setting out, allow extra time, and keep checking because warnings can change. Gusts may reach 50–60 mph widely within the area and around 70 mph on some exposed coasts and hills.
