Good morning, Europe. Tuesday brings a snapshot of the continent’s changing car market and a practical way to compare the running costs behind an appliance price tag.
Reuters morning read: Electric-car sales across the EU reached a record 1.64 million from January through August, up 45% from the same period last year, according to a Transport & Environment study reported by Reuters. EVs accounted for 22% of sales, while the range of available models grew 50% in a year as more affordable cars reached the market. European manufacturers supplied nearly 60% of the available models.

Useful this morning: Replacing a fridge, washing machine, television, lamp, or set of tyres? The European Commission’s EPREL database lets you look up and compare energy-labelled models sold in the EU. Beyond the A-to-G rating, listings can include energy or water use, noise, warranty information, spare-parts availability, and other details that help reveal the longer-term cost—not merely the shop price. Search by product type or scan the QR code on the energy label.
