Reuters morning read: Italy has raised its 2026 growth forecast to 1% from 0.6%, with next year's estimate lifted to 0.8%. Reuters reports that Rome still expects this year's budget deficit to slip below the EU's 3% ceiling, before rising to 3.4% in 2027 as the country uses EU flexibility for defence and energy-related spending.

Useful this morning: The European Space Agency's Open Days calendar has a live stop today at ESAC near Madrid, with talks, workshops and a look at missions studying black holes, exoplanets and the wider Universe. The series continues at ESA's UK centre in Harwell on 10 October. Places can require advance registration, so check the event page before travelling.
