Good morning, Europe. Tuesday brings a decision on cross-border defence work and a useful check before lunch out or a takeaway.
Reuters morning read: EU members have approved five pan-European defence projects, making them eligible for EU funding. Reuters reports that the plans cover drone and anti-drone systems, protection of Europe’s eastern flank, maritime and seabed defence, air and missile defence with early warning, and space-based defence. The programme has €325 million allocated, with the projects designed for work too large or complex for one member state alone.

Useful this morning: Before trying an unfamiliar restaurant, café, takeaway, or food shop in the UK, search the Food Standards Agency’s official hygiene-ratings service by name or postcode. Ratings reflect hygiene standards at the most recent inspection—not food quality—so check the inspection date as well as the score. Scotland uses “Pass” or “Improvement Required” rather than the 0–5 scale used elsewhere.
