Charter / moderation notes

Charter: rb.rec.sport.jai-alai is the RootBadger home for Jai Alai, the fast court discipline of Basque pelota played in a fronton with a hand-woven cesta. This group exists to watch the sport, understand it, preserve its history, support its players and frontons, and help build a real audience for its return. Welcome topics include match and player discussion, official videos, rules and scoring, cesta technique, training, equipment, fronton architecture, amateur and professional competition, the sport’s Basque roots, its history in Florida and elsewhere, classic eras and players, surviving venues, new leagues, restoration efforts, event announcements, photographs, memorabilia, and practical ideas for introducing new spectators and participants to Jai Alai. The central mission is revival. Members are encouraged to share legitimate places to watch, attend, learn, play, volunteer, document history, and support responsible efforts that put athletes and live competition back on the court. Constructive criticism is welcome, especially when it helps explain why earlier versions declined or how a sustainable future can be built. Use clear subjects, identify old footage and historical claims accurately, credit photographers and creators, and link to original or authorized video sources whenever possible. Predictions and discussion of wagering history may be relevant, but gambling promotion, tout spam, referral schemes, and repetitive betting slips must not overwhelm discussion of the sport itself. Respect players, workers, historians, fans, and other posters. No harassment, doxxing, piracy, malicious links, fabricated results, impersonation, bigotry, flooding, or personal attacks. Disagreement about leagues, rules, management, history, or revival strategy is permitted when it remains substantive. Moderation is enabled. Posts may be reviewed to keep the group focused, safe, properly sourced, and useful to people discovering Jai Alai for the first time. The goal is not nostalgia alone: it is to keep the history alive while helping the next era of Jai Alai find its crowd.
